How to take a screenshot

How to take a screenshot on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android — plus what to do with it after: turn the capture into a checklist of tasks and deadlines.

Every device has a built-in screenshot shortcut, but they are all different: Win + Shift + S on Windows, Shift + Command + 4 on Mac, side button + volume up on iPhone, power + volume down on Android. Knowing yours takes two seconds.

After the capture comes the work: reading the screenshot, spotting the asks and dates, and retyping them. ActionShot does that part — upload the screenshot and get a checklist with every task, deadline and owner extracted.

Steps

  1. 01 — Windows — Win + Shift + S

Opens Snipping Tool to capture a region, window or full screen. The result lands in your clipboard or saves to Pictures → Screenshots.

  2. 02 — Mac — Shift + Command + 4

Lets you drag to select an area. Add Shift + Command + 3 for the full screen, or Shift + Command + 5 for the screenshot panel with timer and save options.

  3. 03 — iPhone — side button + volume up

On iPhones with Face ID, press the side button and volume up together. On models with a home button, press home + sleep/wake. The capture saves to Photos → Screenshots.

  4. 04 — Android — power + volume down

Press the power button and volume down at the same time. The capture saves to Google Photos or Files under Screenshots, depending on your device.

Questions

Which shortcut should I use?

Win + Shift + S on Windows and Shift + Command + 4 on Mac give you the most control — you choose exactly what to capture instead of grabbing the whole screen.

Can I screenshot a scrolling page?

Not natively on most devices. Take overlapping screenshots and upload each one — ActionShot merges duplicate requests so nothing repeats.

What do I do after taking the screenshot?

Upload it to ActionShot. The model extracts every task, deadline and person mentioned in the image and returns an editable checklist you can export or send to Notion.
