How to screenshot on Windows

Screenshot on Windows with Print Screen, Snipping Tool or Game Bar — then turn the captures into an editable checklist with deadlines and people attached.

Windows has four built-in ways to screenshot, and most people only know one. Print Screen copies to the clipboard, Snipping Tool captures a region, Windows logo + Print Screen saves a file, and Game Bar records video plus stills.

The capture is only half the job. Once you have the screenshot, you still have to read it, spot the asks and deadlines, and retype them into a list. ActionShot takes that step over — upload the screenshot and get every task back as a checklist.

Steps

  1. 01 — Snipping Tool — region or window

Press Win + Shift + S. The screen dims and a toolbar appears: rectangular snip, window snip or full-screen snip. Drag the area you want and the capture lands in your clipboard, ready to paste or save.

  2. 02 — Print Screen — full screen to clipboard

Press Print Screen (PrtScn). The whole screen copies to the clipboard. Open Paint or any editor and paste, or set Windows to open Snipping Tool directly from the Print Screen key in Settings → Accessibility → Keyboard.

  3. 03 — Windows logo + Print Screen — saved file

Press the Windows logo key + Print Screen. The screen flashes once and the capture saves as a PNG under Pictures → Screenshots. No pasting, no extra step — just a file you can upload.

  4. 04 — Game Bar — games and apps

Press Win + G, then the camera icon. Game Bar captures the active window or full screen and saves to Videos → Captures. Useful when the screenshot is inside a game or a full-screen app.

Captured it. Now skip the retyping

Upload any screenshot free and get every action back in its own words, with deadlines resolved to real dates when safe. Windows takes the screenshot — ActionShot understands it.

Questions

Where do Windows screenshots get saved?

Windows logo + Print Screen saves to Pictures → Screenshots. Snipping Tool copies to the clipboard unless you save it. Game Bar saves to Videos → Captures.

Can I screenshot just one window?

Yes. Alt + Print Screen copies the active window to the clipboard, or use Win + Shift + S and choose window snip in Snipping Tool.

What do I do with screenshots full of tasks?

Run them through ActionShot. Each image becomes an editable checklist — export as text, CSV, calendar file or straight to Notion — so nothing gets retyped.
