How to find screenshots on iPhone
All your iPhone screenshots live in one album. Open Photos, find them in seconds — then turn the keepers into a checklist with ActionShot.
iPhone screenshots pile up fast: chats to answer, receipts to file, ideas to keep. They all land in the same place — a dedicated album inside Photos — so finding them takes seconds once you know where to look.
The harder part is what comes after finding them: reading each one, pulling out the asks and their deadlines, and retyping everything into a list. That is the step this guide hands to ActionShot.
Steps
- 01 — Open Photos and tap Albums
Open the Photos app, tap Albums at the bottom, and scroll to Media Types. Every screenshot you have ever taken is collected under Screenshots — no searching through the full camera roll.
- 02 — Open the Screenshots album
Tap Screenshots to see them newest-first. This is the fastest triage view: swipe through, delete the ones that no longer matter, and keep the ones hiding tasks, dates or promises.
- 03 — Search when you know what is in it
Pull down in the Photos tab and type what you remember — a name, a place, text visible in the image. iPhone indexes screenshot text, so “dentist” or “invoice” usually surfaces the right capture.
- 04 — Turn the keepers into tasks
Screenshot the keepers into ActionShot instead of retyping them. Each image becomes an editable checklist with deadlines and people attached — export it as text, CSV, calendar file or straight to Notion.
Upload any screenshot free and get every action back in its own words, with deadlines resolved to real dates when safe. Finding screenshots is built into your iPhone — understanding them is ActionShot.
Questions
Where are screenshots saved on iPhone?
In the Photos app under Albums, Media Types, Screenshots. They also appear in Recents and in Files if you saved them there explicitly.
Can I search the text inside a screenshot?
Yes. Pull down in the Photos tab and type any visible text — iPhone indexes it. Then upload the match to ActionShot to extract its tasks.
What do I do with screenshots I keep “for later”?
Run them through ActionShot once a week: each becomes a dated checklist, so “later” turns into named tasks with deadlines instead of a growing album.
I can't find my screenshots — where did they go?
Check the Screenshots album first, then Recently Deleted — captures stay recoverable for 30 days. If they are older, search any visible text in Photos or look in Files, where manually saved captures live.
Do these steps work on iPhone 16, 17 and iOS 18?
Yes. The Albums, Media Types, Screenshots path is identical on the newest models and on iOS 18, including after system updates. Text search works the same way on all of them.
